A Crane Lifting a Container

Who we are

Nye Container & Intermodal Planning (NCIP) is a highly specialized consultancy focused on the needs of our clients.  We draw on over a half century of experience in the planning, design and operational analysis of container and intermodal terminals spanning the globe.

We are well aware that the infrastructure and equipment of container terminals is a significant investment and technology alone cannot compensate for a less-than-optimal facility design.  This is especially true of automated terminals where planning has been described as only “where to put the rails”, but where once “where to put the rails” is decided, physical change is essentially prohibitive.

We understand that there is no place for cookie-cutter terminal designs.  Every one of our designs is tailored to its location, market and the specific business case of our client.

In the business of container terminals, change has been and continues to be the principal constant.  As vessel size, sheer volume of container traffic, best operating practices and information technologies have evolved, we are proud that our past projects have exhibited the resilience to weather change and allow for considerable optimization so far.

After 60 plus years, many of the original container terminals are coming due for reinvestment.  Redeveloping is infinitely more complex than new-building in that a fully integrated combination of physical, operational and technological phases are required, all while the terminal remains a viable operation.

Our experience has been acquired before and during our employment with Moffatt & Nichol.
